Despite a growing culture of Islamophobia in the United States, around 20000 Americans convert to Islam every year. Many converts face discrimination in their everyday lives, but say they don't regret their decision. In the nine years since 9/11, these converts have seen bans on Muslim religious clothing and racial profiling against Muslims at airports. They say the mainstream media doesn't help portray a good image of converts and only reports on the small number of extremist radicals.

The European Parliament has voted against France's expulsion of Roma migrants. The controversial policy has provoked widespread criticism, and now MEP's are demanding a halt to the deportations. As of August 2004, 2476 orphans had settled in Japan, according to the figures of the Japanese Ministry of Labor. They receive monthly payments of ¥20000-30000 from the Japanese government. In 2003, 612 orphans filed a lawsuit against the Japanese government, claiming that it bears responsibility for their having been left behind; each plaintiff sought ¥33 million.
