Middletown is a one-light town that is particularly proud of its Civil War History, namely Cedar Creek Battlefield, that was the decisive battle that broke the back of the Army of Northern Virginia. Belle Grove Mansion is on the edge of the battlefield, and is where Dolley and James Madison spent their honeymoon. Middletown is also proud of the Wayside Theater, the second oldest equity house in Virginia. Also in town is Lord Fairfax Community College that just celebrated its 40th Anniversary, and Lord Fairfax was the mentor to George Washington.
