This summer, I've had the good fortune of getting two internships in two of my favorite subjects: art and science. During the week I work at a science lab at Northwestern University, exploring the possibility of one's sense of sight changing one's sense of touch. I'm also working with Redmoon Theater in Chicago, a company that produces breathtaking spectacle. Using masks, puppetry, machinery, shadows, music and choreography and almost always using the world outside as their theater, they create some of the most amazing works of art I've ever seen. As I was uploading this footage, I realized how similar the two projects are. At NWU I'm exploring how what you see (sight) can change what you feel (touch) and at Redmoon, I'm experiencing, through the viewer's reaction how what you see changes how you feel emotionally. I wish I had footage from the lab, I think that would have been interesting intercut with this footage, but still, "playing" two-dimensional violins, wearing futuristic costumes at a farmer's market in the middle of the day, I hope will be an interesting addition to Life in a Day.

Living their lives in late capitalist society, where the economic, abstract forces makes daily life unreal, and where the individual itself is the operating tool for the techno-marketing power, artists like Mom and Jerry can be seen as recycling machines in the monstrous, virtual city of garbage.

EPILEPSIKA REVELATIO CHRISTIAN ZANOTTO - 2010 - 3d and digital animation The video brings us through a travel across an universe of inner nature ; like a threshold which has been unclosed on an usually hidden world, its images allow us to catch a foreshortening of a psycho-philosofical reality, omnipresent and living. The viewer is confronted with luminous figures emerging from the darkness of a broad and quite never explored conscience, manifesting themselves to activate a sort of electric and revealing contact. A religious-like iconography : the characters resemble icons used in past times by men for their religion, religion here analyzed in its aspect of machinery built by means of all the fears,the hopes and the will to understand the things of the world and control it. A philosofical and artistic investigation : "..I feel more like ..an entity.."; "..help me,..I'm lost.."; "..are you speaking about..eternity..?"; "I can save myself".

Visual sequences were transformed from stills into super saturated moving images by shooting them off a computer monitor with a post industrial iPhone in wobbly cam style. The visuals show derelict factory interiors, now a common sight in developed countries since the advent of globalization and the movement of capital to developing countries where labour is cheaper, working conditions are unsafe and there are few trade union rights. The lyrics in the music say the opposite to what we are seeing: get up early get the work done even if you're a lazy eyed son We hope this use of irony will add a feeling of poignancy and, hopefully, lead young people to ask themselves if this how things should be run? is this wastage of buildings, machinery and productivity necessary? Should we be organising society in a different way?

So, on July 28, 2010, Brandon, Nikkie, Brian, Charlene, Brad, and I decide to go ghost hunting out at Coulterville, which was kind of a failure. There's remnants of a tree where the KKK used to hang people from, and when you get close to the tree, you can notice the temperature drop. Also, there's supposedly a cemetery and the foundation of an orphanage out there but you have to search through these creepy woods to find it. The only freaky things were the KKK hanging tree, we could hear laughter, footsteps, also, machinery and then we found construction equipment but there was no way someone was up there with it on at 2am.

Over the past week, beginning July 26th, 2010, the 4-acre field next to our home here in Rhinebeck, has been assaulted by huge chopping, digging and ripping machinery carried about the terrain on gigantic treaded tires with. Muscular, determined men wielding chain saws weave in and out of the machines, seeking out the trees marked with ugly spray paint Xs. We've known for years that one day they would arrive, but the economy and other factors has kept them at bay for more than a quarter of a century. Now they are here and the overgrown property that has been a home for animals like wild turkeys, deer, pileated woodpeckers, groundhogs and probably millions of insects and other small creatures. Huge trees are coming down, too, Most of them are gone now, the last of them coming down today. A few remain along our property line, but even most of those sat on the builder's property and are gone. We have lost ancient locust trees. We live on Locust Grove Road, but most are now gone. The property has been devastated. We are heartbroken, but we realize that our property was, long ago, heavily forested, so we can't really get too high on our horses about this. However, we do feel compassion for all the creatures who now must find new habitat. Those who have survived the devastation.
